Devendra Fadnavis launches digital platform for CM medical assistance fund

The Maharashtra government on Monday rolled out a new digital platform for the Chief Minister’s Medical Assistance Fund (CMMAF), alongside plans to establish a centralised monitoring “war room” aimed at integrating multiple health schemes and improving the delivery of financial aid to patients.

Speaking at the launch event at Sahyadri Guest House, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the fund is evolving beyond a financial assistance mechanism into a coordinated platform linking patients, hospitals and the government.

Officials said the new system seeks to streamline processes, reduce delays and curb duplication of benefits across schemes, ensuring that assistance reaches eligible beneficiaries more efficiently.

War room to track schemes, improve coordination

A key component of the initiative is the proposed war room, which will function as a central monitoring hub at the state level. It will track applications, approvals and fund disbursal in real time, enabling quicker decision-making and better coordination between departments.

During the review meeting of the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund Cell, Rameshwar Naik outlined how the integrated system would bring together various ongoing health schemes under a single digital framework.

The government expects this consolidation to reduce administrative overlaps and improve transparency in fund allocation.

Focus on access to costly treatments

The Chief Minister highlighted the high cost of advanced cancer treatments, particularly immunotherapy, noting that a single injection can cost around Rs 2 lakh, with total treatment expenses reaching up to Rs 8 lakh.

He stressed the need for structured planning to make such treatments accessible to economically weaker patients. He also underlined the importance of preventing multiple claims for the same benefit, stating that better targeting would allow more patients to receive assistance.

Key features of the digital system

The newly launched platform introduces several process changes aimed at improving efficiency and transparency:

Real-time application tracking: Patients receive updates via SMS and mobile links

Faster approvals: Financial aid decisions targeted within eight working hours

Phased disbursement: Initial 30 per cent release followed by the remaining 70 per cent after final approval

Paperless workflow: Entire process handled digitally without physical documents

Hospital-led applications: Hospitals submit requests directly, reducing patient burden

Digital verification: Documents such as Aadhaar and income certificates verified online

Direct Benefit Transfer: Funds credited directly to hospital accounts

Extensive hospital network: Over 3,000 government and private hospitals onboarded

Helpline and WhatsApp support: Guidance available through a toll-free number

Mobile app integration: Helps locate nearby hospitals, blood banks and ambulances

Public-private partnerships: Scope for NGO and corporate CSR contributions

Bed availability tracking: Real-time updates for charitable hospitals

Additional support systems and outreach

Officials said complementary initiatives are also being expanded under the programme. Health camps are being conducted through a dedicated management system, while a 24×7 helpline has been introduced to guide patients on treatment options and available facilities.

An independent portal has been developed to enable non-governmental organisations to register and collaborate with the government. A tripartite funding model involving the CM Relief Fund, hospitals and corporate social responsibility (CSR) partners is also being promoted to support high-cost treatments, particularly for critical illnesses.

Senior officials, including Ashwini Bhide and Praveen Pardeshi, attended the event, while district collectors across the state joined via video conferencing.

The government indicated that the integrated platform and monitoring system are expected to significantly reduce processing time and improve access to medical assistance for patients across Maharashtra.
