Ashoke Pandit remembers Bharat Kapoor’s rare talent, calls his demise a loss

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit paid an emotional tribute to veteran actor Bharat Kapoor, who passed away in Mumbai at the age of 80. Remembering him as both a talented performer and a remarkable human being, Pandit reflected on Kapoor’s dedication to his craft and the lasting impression he left on the industry.

Speaking about the late actor, Pandit said, “He was a fine actor and a great human being.” He described Kapoor’s demise as “a loss to the industry,” adding that the actor had not been keeping well for quite some time. His passing marks the end of a long and respected career that spanned theatre, films, and television, where he became a familiar face to audiences over the decades.

Pandit also highlighted Kapoor’s exceptional talent for memorising lengthy scripts, something that set him apart from many of his contemporaries. “As an actor, he also remembered his lines so well. His performance was also good,” he said, praising his professionalism and commitment.

Recalling his personal experience of working with Kapoor, Pandit shared that he had collaborated with him across multiple formats. “I have spent a lot of time with Bharat ji… in film, theatre and television. I have worked with him in all three formats,” he said, underlining the depth of their association.

He further spoke about Kapoor’s unique on-screen presence, noting the contrast between his off-screen personality and the characters he portrayed. “He was basically a very big surprise on camera. He used to stay quiet,” Pandit said, adding that the transformation was striking once the camera started rolling.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Kapoor’s craft, according to Pandit, was his ability to memorise extensive dialogues with ease. “He used to remember big pages, 8-10 pages,” he recalled, highlighting the actor’s sharp memory and discipline.

Kapoor’s passing has left a void in the industry, with colleagues remembering not just his performances but also his humility and quiet nature. Through heartfelt tributes like Pandit’s, his legacy as a dedicated actor and respected individual continues to be celebrated.
