Farmers to get real-time weather alerts amid weak monsoon forecast: CM Fadnavis

Marathwada and Western Vidarbha will be on watch this monsoon season as experts warn that the impact of El Nino may not be uniform across Maharashtra. While the state is expected to receive around 88 per cent of average rainfall, indicating nearly a 12 per cent deficit, some regions could face a much sharper shortfall than others.

Administration on alert

As weather experts have predicted a below-normal monsoon due to the El Nino effect, Maharashtra is likely to witness only 88 per cent of its average rainfall this year. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the rainfall deficit may not be uniform across the state and could vary from region to region. “Western Vidarbha and Marathwada will need more attention,” he added.

Region-wise updates

On Thursday, the state government held a review meeting on the crop situation and preparations for the upcoming monsoon season. Speaking to the media after the meeting, Fadnavis said farmers would be provided with weather-related information through an app using artificial intelligence. He said weather updates would also be shared region-wise so that farmers can better understand local conditions and prepare themselves accordingly.

Farm loan waiver

Fadnavis also reiterated that the farm loan waiver would be implemented before June 30, as promised by the Mahayuti government. His statement comes amid political buzz, especially from the Opposition camp, questioning whether the current ruling alliance would fulfil its promise.
