Actor Yash has two major films lined up for release this year- Toxic and Ramayana. The first glimpse teaser introducing Ranbir Kapoor’s character, Lord Rama, was released recently. While the teaser received appreciation, it also faced criticism for its visuals. Yash, who plays Ravana in the film, has now addressed the feedback. He is also co-producing the film along with Namit Malhotra.
Yash on VFX criticism for Ramayana
During an interaction on Muse TV’s YouTube channel, Yash was asked about working on a film like Ramayana, which relies heavily on VFX. The host also mentioned that the visuals in the teaser appeared photorealistic.
Responding to the criticism, Yash said, “That’s where I think DNEG comes in (laughs). Namit, who is my producing partner, brings that expertise. The photorealistic visuals you’re talking about- it’s still a work in progress. I’m sure it will be even better in the final product. We’re aiming for something truly top-notch.”
DNEG is an Academy Award-winning British VFX studio known for its work on films like Inception, Interstellar, Tenet, Dune, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, and Dune: Part Two.
He was further asked if he watched a completed cut of Ramayana. “We’re working on it and will keep improving it till the last minute. We’ve seen a fairly good version, but we’re still enhancing it. It’s exciting to build something you believe in and watch it on the big screen. At the end of the day, producers and actors also do it for themselves,” he said.
Yash on working with Ranbir Kapoor
In a conversation with Fandango, Yash spoke about his equation with Ranbir Kapoor. He shared, “Interestingly, we haven’t shared screen space yet. As you know, it’s a two-part film. In the first part, as Ravana, I have my own kingdom, and Rama has his own.”
He added, “We’ve met a couple of times, and he’s a fabulous actor. There’s mutual respect between us. When you’re working on something as ambitious as Ramayana, everyone has one goal- to give their best to tell the story. Our visions are aligned, so chemistry isn’t an issue. We’re enjoying the process.”
