Western Railway on Friday, May 8, announced that they will carry out essential maintenance work on tracks, signalling systems and overhead equipment. As per the official statement, the authorities will undertake a jumbo block on its suburban section between Borivali Railway Station and Bhayandar Railway Station. The block will be in place during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, May 9-10.
As per the official statement from Western Railway, the four-hour jumbo block will be carried out on the up and down slow lines from 12:30 am to 4:30 am.
Up slow trains are to be affected
As per the official statement from Western Railway, “During the block period, all UP slow line trains will be operated on the UP fast line from Virar/Vasai Road to Borivali/Goregaon. Similarly, all Virar-bound DOWN Slow line trains will be operated on the DOWN Fast line from Goregaon to Vasai Road/Virar.”
Due to this block, some suburban services will remain cancelled during the block period. Western Railway further stated that the detailed list of cancelled services will be made available at all suburban railway stations.
The railway administration also clarified that there will be no daytime block on Sunday, May 10, 2026, providing relief to commuters during the weekend.
Passengers have been advised to take note of the revised train operations and plan their journeys accordingly.
Western Railway fines over 3.6 lakh ticketless passengers in April
Western Railway on Wednesday said that it penalised over 3.6 lakh ticketless passengers and collected a record Rs 27.37 crore in April 2026.
An official statement said that the Western Railway officials recorded their highest-ever monthly revenue from ticket checking during intensive ticket-checking drives across its network.
The April figures of fines collected from the ticketless passengers surpassed the previous record of Rs 25.98 crore set in May 2022, marking an increase of over 5 per cent.
The officials said the achievement reflects sustained efforts to curb ticketless and irregular travel, they said.
Over 3.6 lakh ticketless passengers detected
The officials said that in April, intensive ticket-checking drives were conducted at Mumbai local train stations and Mail and Express trains.
During April, more than 3.60 lakh passengers were found travelling without valid tickets or with irregular tickets. The drives covered Mumbai suburban services, Mail and Express trains, passenger trains and holiday specials, the official statement said.
The total penalty collected also showed a significant rise of over 25 per cent compared to April 2025, when Rs 21.89 crore was recovered. It also exceeded the set target of Rs 24.07 crore by over 13 per cent, it said.
