Tom Holland says he is ready to `swing away` from playing Spider-Man

Actor Tom Holland will be seen returning as Spider-Man for the fourth film in the franchise, where he plays the friendly neighbourhood superhero. Ahead of the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which marks his fourth solo film as the web-slinger, Holland has said that he would be happy to end his run as the superhero and pass on the baton, preferably in an Iron Man-style farewell.

Tom Holland on exiting Spider-Man

Speaking to Empire Magazine, Tom Holland reflected on what the future holds for the franchise. “For whoever’s next, whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter. Whatever that looks like, I don’t know,” the actor said.

He also compared it to what Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man did for him. “But, if I could do what Downey did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset,” he added.

Tom Holland appeared as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time in Captain America: Civil War in 2016 and went on to headline three Spider-Man films in the MCU, along with appearances in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. He is the first actor to headline four solo Spider-Man films. Previously, Tobey Maguire featured in three films, while Andrew Garfield appeared in two. All three actors appeared together in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

About Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer

Following the record-breaking global success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks an entirely new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living completely alone after voluntarily erasing himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. His girlfriend MJ (Zendaya) and best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon) have forgotten who he is and now see him as just a “friendly neighbour.”

Alone and grieving the death of his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), Peter dons a new comic-accurate red-and-blue suit and once again sets out to save the day.

Fighting crime in a New York that no longer knows his name, he devotes himself entirely to protecting the city as a full-time Spider-Man. However, as the demands intensify, the mounting pressure triggers a surprising physical evolution that threatens his very existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.

The trailer also marks the return of Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, a professor to whom Peter Parker turns during difficult times.
