Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) project`s Phase 2 has neared completion as the top Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority officials reviewed the final works on Wednesday, officials said.
Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, Metropolitan Commissioner along with Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Vikram Kumar, carried out a site inspection of the BKC-Vakola connector under Phase 2 of the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road project, an official statement said.
During the visit, the officials reviewed the progress of construction work and instructed contractors and agencies to speed up the remaining work while maintaining safety standards and construction quality.
According to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), Phase 2 of the SCLR project is now 98 per cent complete.
Officials said this is the final phase of the long-awaited road connectivity project, which is expected to significantly improve traffic movement across Mumbai.
The SCLR project, developed in phases over the years, is now being transformed into a seamless, signal-free corridor of nearly 11 km, officials said.
Better connectivity in Mumbai
Once fully operational, the SCLR corridor will provide seamless connectivity between the Eastern Express Highway, Western Express Highway, Bandra-Kurla Complex, Santacruz, Chembur, Kalina and Kurla.
The project includes multiple elevated sections, connector arms and key interchanges aimed at reducing congestion on important arterial roads.
Travel time expected to reduce
MMRDA officials stated that the completion of Phase 2 is expected to reduce travel time by nearly 35 minutes for commuters using the corridor.
The authority said the project marks an important step towards creating a more integrated urban mobility system for Mumbai and improving east-west road connectivity in the city.
Unified corridor
The SCLR project, developed in phases over the years, is now being transformed into a seamless, signal-free corridor of nearly 11 km, officials said.
Once complete, it will connect major routes and areas including the Eastern Express Highway (EEH), Western Express Highway (WEH), Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and key neighbourhoods such as Santacruz, Vakola, Kalina, Kurla and Chembur.
The newly completed BKC-Vakola arm, though shorter in length, plays a crucial role in linking these sections and improving traffic flow.
BKC-Vakola Arm Specifications:
– Total length: 1.4 km
– 500 metres of 4-lane elevated carriageway
– 900 metres of 2-lane connecting arms
