A triple fatality was reported at Marine Drive in the early hours of Monday after a speeding motorcycle allegedly jumped a traffic signal and struck a pedestrian crossing the road. The incident occurred at around 5.40 am on the northbound carriageway of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road near the Parsi Gymkhana (Parsi Gate) junction.
Police said a motorcycle, ridden by Krushna Desai, 19, with Chandani Imam Ali Shaikh as pillion, was going at high speed. Desai jumped the signal and struck 66-year-old Kishore Lamne, who was crossing the road. The collision flung all three onto the road, leaving all three critically injured.

Eyewitnesses and early responders rushed to help and alerted authorities. The trio was shifted to Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital, where doctors declared them dead before admission.
Speeding and violation
Preliminary findings point to speeding and signal violation as the primary causes of the crash. Police said the stretch, though wide and relatively empty during early morning hours, often witnesses speeding motorists, particularly bikers.
The senior victim
Lamne, a former bank employee, had a long-standing habit of taking early morning walks along the Marine Drive stretch. According to his family members, he would leave home before dawn and return by around 6 am each day. When he failed to come back at his usual time on Monday, they grew anxious and tried reaching him on his phone. “A policeman answered the call and informed us about the accident,” a relative said. He is survived by his wife, son, and daughter-in-law, as well as a young granddaughter.
Official Speak
“CCTV footage from cameras installed along Marine Drive is being scanned to reconstruct the exact sequence of events and determine whether any other vehicles were involved or if additional factors contributed to the crash. We are looking into the case,” a police officer said.
