Metro double whammy: Second Aqua Line snag halts trains between BKC-Marol Naka

Mumbai Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line) services continued to face disruption on Friday afternoon despite authorities earlier claiming that the technical snag affecting both up and down routes had been rectified.

Hundreds of commuters remained stranded as train operations continued to be affected for over 40 minutes following a fresh technical issue reported between Marol Naka and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).

Services halted on both lines

According to the latest update, metro services on both the up and down lines were halted from around 12.40 pm. Officials informed commuters that restoration of services could take at least another 30 minutes.

While train operations towards Cuffe Parade resumed later in the afternoon, services towards Aarey remained non-operational at the time of reporting.Metro authorities issue fresh statement

In a post on X at 1.34 pm, Mumbai Metro Line 3 acknowledged the disruption and confirmed that technical teams were working to restore normal operations.

“A technical snag has been reported on the Aqualine. Due to this, train services on both the Up and Down lines are affected, and passengers may experience delays. Our technical team is working to restore normal services at the earliest. We regret the inconvenience caused,” the statement read.

At around 1.55 pm, Mumbai Metro Line 3 issued another update on X, stating that metro services on both the up and down routes of the Aquamarine Line were temporarily affected due to a technical malfunction. The operator said commuters may experience delays and added that the technical team was “working on a war footing” to restore services, while regretting the inconvenience caused to passengers.

Commuters continue to face inconvenience

The repeated disruption triggered frustration among commuters, many of whom had earlier criticised metro authorities for lack of communication and prolonged delays during peak travel hours.

The incident has once again raised concerns over operational reliability and emergency response management on Mumbai’s newly operational metro corridor.

Expressing frustration over the disruption, a commuter wrote on X, “Eight of my family members were stranded on the Aqua Line Metro 3 at Dadar station for 40 minutes. There was absolutely no communication, no proper updates, and no refunds. While the display board showed a ‘small delay,’ platform staff kept insisting it was only a five-minute halt. Pathetic.”

Entry restricted

Entry to the BKC Metro station has been restricted as train services on both the up and down lines remain suspended. Only the trains that were stranded with passengers onboard are currently being moved back to the depot.
