​Flag hoisting, ceremonial salute and more as TMC celebrates Maharashtra Day 

The 67th anniversary of the formation of Maharashtra State was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Thane Municipal Corporation headquarters in Panchpakhadi, Thane.

Early morning at around 7:15 am, Mayor Sharmila Rohit Pimpalolkar hoisted the national flag and received a ceremonial salute. The occasion was marked by the singing of the national anthem and state song.

Senior civic officials including Municipal Commissioner Sourabh Rao, Deputy Mayor Krishna Patil, House Leader Hanmant Jagdale, Opposition Leader Ashraf U. Pathan and Additional Commissioners Sandeep Malvi and Prashant Rode were present along with officers and staff, all paying respect to the national flag.

Sanitation workers honoured on Labour Day

After the flag hoisting ceremony, the civic body also observed International Workers’ Day by felicitating sanitation workers for their dedicated service.

Ten sanitation workers, namely Lalita Jadhav, Kamal Sonawane, Gita Lichite, Sunil Gholap, Santosh Kelskar, Savita Borkar, Pushpa Patil, Vidhnesh Vagadle, Prashant Sapkal and Maruti Bodke — were honoured. They received shawls, mementoes and tulsi saplings as a mark of respect.

Fire department staff recognised for service

Personnel from the Thane Fire Department, earlier recognised by the Home Department for their excellent service, were also honoured during the event.

The honoured staff included Fire Station Officer Pradeep Patil, Nitin Shinde, Sandeep Kadam, Dinesh Patil, Assistant Fire Station Officers Ananda Pawane and Balu Munde, Pravin Bhoi, Leading Fireman Dhanaji Kadke, Jitendra Churmure, Ashok Patil, Shivaji Mengal, Driver Operator Sandeep Lanjekar, Deepak Sonawane, Chandrakant Ghadshi, Fireman Mahadev Warang, Sachin Khedekar and Nandkishor Bagul, among others.

Tributes paid at Narendra Ballal Hall

Following the flag hoisting ceremony, dignitaries gathered at the late Narendra Ballal Hall to pay floral tributes to portraits of eminent personalities.

Mayor Sharmila Pimpalolkar and Commissioner Sourabh Rao led the tributes. Several senior officials including Deputy Mayor Krishna Patil, House Leader Hanmant Jagdale, Opposition Leader Ashraf U. Pathan, Additional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, and other civic officers were present.

Tributes to historical leaders across Thane

Later, Additional Commissioner Sandeep Malvi paid floral tributes to the statues of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Masunda Lake and B. R. Ambedkar at Court Naka.

Dr. Mitali Sancheti also paid tribute at Thane Railway Station. Other officials, including Deputy Commissioner G. G. Godepure and Assistant Commissioner Sopan Bhaik, were present during the ceremonies.
