Fadnavis orders `Housing Stock Policy` to support project-affected families

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday directed officials to prepare a policy for the effective use of ‘housing stock’ created for people affected by infrastructure projects in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), officials said.

CM Fadnavis said that as large-scale development projects continue across the region, proper utilisation of such housing is necessary to ensure benefits reach affected citizens.

The directions were given during a meeting held at the Chief Minister’s residence to review various issues in the Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency. Union Minister Piyush Goyal was also present, an official statement said.

It stated that CM Fadnavis highlighted that several infrastructure projects are underway and more are planned. He stressed the need for coordination with central government agencies and called for a joint survey of land required for development.

Focus on land and legal matters

The Chief Minister instructed officials to send a consolidated proposal to the central government regarding land required for projects. He also asked for the appointment of nodal officers to speed up court cases related to land under development authorities, the statement said.

Attention was also given to industrial growth. Officials were asked to follow up with the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation regarding land availability in the Shendra-Bidkin industrial area in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, it said.

Work on infrastructure in the Dighi industrial area is to be accelerated. In addition, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has been directed to improve facilities, cleanliness, equipment and staffing at major hospitals.

Urban planning and civic facilities

The Chief Minister emphasised the need to complete mapping of village settlements in Mumbai so that all residents receive civic amenities. He also proposed developing a convention centre in Gorai on the lines of Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, with a detailed master plan.

Piyush Goyal said skill development centres are being set up through the National Skill Development Corporation, and a centre in North Mumbai should be made operational soon.

He also called for the development of sports infrastructure in Kandivali through public-private partnerships, with support from the Sports Authority of India.

Coastal development

Goyal highlighted the central government’s aim to make India drug-free by March 2029 and urged police to contribute actively. He also stressed the need to develop coastal villages under fisheries schemes and improve infrastructure for fishing activities.

Suggestions were made to provide mobile toilet facilities for residents and tourists in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

Senior officials from various departments attended the meeting, including representatives from MMRDA, MIDC and MHADA, along with civic authorities.
