BTS Jimin faces backlash over viral on-stage moment during Arirang tour

K-pop star Jimin has found himself at the centre of online controversy after a clip from BTS’ ongoing Arirang World Tour went viral, sparking mixed reactions among fans and netizens.

The incident reportedly took place during a recent concert stop in the United States, where BTS are currently performing as part of their global tour. In the now widely circulated video, Jimin is seen drinking water on stage and then spitting it out mid-performance. The brief moment quickly gained traction online, with many viewers expressing discomfort and calling the act inappropriate.

Critics on social media described the behaviour as unhygienic and disrespectful, especially given the scale of live concerts and the expectations from global artists. Some users questioned whether such actions were necessary during a professional performance, while others argued that public figures should be more mindful of their conduct on stage.

However, the backlash has not been one-sided. A significant section of BTS’ fanbase, known as ARMY, has come forward in defence of the singer. Supporters claim the viral clip may have been taken out of context and does not fully reflect what happened during the performance. They argue that moments from high-energy concerts can often be misinterpreted when viewed in isolation, especially without understanding the flow of the show.

The controversy has also evolved into a broader debate online. Discussions have emerged and how quickly social media amplifies isolated incidents and turns them into larger narratives. Some fans have even pointed out perceived double standards in how male and female idols are judged for on-stage behaviour, adding another layer to the conversation.

Despite the growing buzz, neither Jimin nor BTS’ management agency has issued an official statement addressing the incident so far. Meanwhile, the group continues with their tour, which marks their major comeback after completing mandatory military service and releasing their album Arirang earlier this year.

The episode highlights how even brief, unscripted moments during live performances can quickly spiral into viral controversies in the digital age. For global stars like Jimin, every on-stage action is closely scrutinised, often leading to divided opinions among audiences worldwide.
