‘Aaple Sarkar 2.0’ to be rolled out by August; govt procedures to be reduced

The process of simplifying and redesigning services under “Aaple Sarkar 2.0” is expected to be completed by August 14,  2026, officials said, adding that Maharashtra will reduce unnecessary government procedures under the new reforms.

“Citizens are expected to experience the new reforms from August 15, 2026 onwards,” the officials said.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis expressed confidence that once the upgraded service modules become fully operational, people’s perception of government services would change positively.

Fadnavis noted that government systems have gradually become more complicated over many years due to the addition of multiple procedures and approvals.

He said the Government Process Re-engineering (GPR) system initiative is intended to remove unnecessary stages and make administration easier both for citizens and government officials.

The chief minister also highlighted the earlier “self-certification” initiative, which reduced the need for unnecessary certificates and official attestations.

According to him, this reform saved citizens time and increased accountability.

GPR system to make services simpler

Meanwhile, CM Fadnavis on Monday directed all government departments in Maharashtra to review their public services and bring them under the Government Process Re-engineering (GPR) system to make services simpler, faster and more citizen-friendly.

The directions were issued during a review meeting on Governance Process Re-engineering held at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai.

Fadnavis said the state government is working to reduce unnecessary procedures, paperwork and approval stages in public services and welfare schemes.

He stated that the reform process aims to improve transparency, efficiency and accessibility for citizens.

According to the chief minister, departments should not focus only on increasing the number of services but also on improving their quality and usefulness.

Over 1,200 services reviewed

The Maharashtra government has so far reviewed 1,222 public services under the reform initiative.

Out of these, 723 services considered directly useful for citizens have been identified and streamlined.

Fadnavis said the number could reduce further once complete integration of services is achieved through the upgraded “Aaple Sarkar 2.0” platform.

Fadnavis praised the Maharashtra Revenue Department for leading efforts to simplify public services.

He said reforms in the department, which directly interacts with large sections of the public, would contribute significantly to overall government transformation.

The chief minister also stressed the need to improve service delivery systems in local self-government bodies and called for a uniform and strong digital framework across institutions.

Push for digital communication platforms

Fadnavis further encouraged departments to use hyperlocal digital platforms such as Public App to communicate government initiatives and achievements more effectively to citizens.

He directed departments to prepare dedicated strategies for the planned use of such digital platforms.

Representatives from the Gates Foundation, Samagra and Public App attended the meeting along with senior state officials, district collectors and police superintendents.
