Brown teaser: Karisma Kapoor plays a fierce cop in the neo-noir thriller

After impressing the audience in Mentalhood, Karisma Kapoor is set to return on the OTT screens once again in her upcoming web series Brown. The makers have finally unveiled the teaser of the neo-noir psychological crime thriller, and it shows the actress in arguably her most intense and transformative role yet.

Karisma Kapoor plays an alcoholic cop in Brown

The teaser is set against the haunting, morally fractured backdrop of Kolkata. The show sees Karisma stepping into the role of Rita Brown, a cop in the Kolkata Police Force. The gritty visuals and emotionally charged atmosphere of the teaser hint that the series will be a dark, layered thriller that goes far beyond a conventional murder mystery.

Karisma has been one of the few actors who continues to connect with audiences across generations, and has constantly evolved with changing storytelling. Brown clearly marks one of the boldest shifts in her career so far as she embraces layered, contemporary characters on OTT. With Brown, she takes a bold leap into darker territory, portraying a complex police officer battling personal demons while also investigating disturbing crimes. The audience will get to see her in an emotionally fractured and fiercely resilient avatar, unlike anything she has attempted before.

Earlier, while speaking about her career and changing forms of storytelling, Karisma told PTI, “We are always constantly evolving. Now, with OTT, there is a scope to portray different facets of a character. I was out of my comfort zone with this show. There are certain things that I am doing in the show, which I don’t do in real life, so I had to stretch myself. It was interesting for me to do that.”

About Brown

Directed by Abhinav Deo, the show also stars Surya Sharma, Soni Razdan, Helen, KK Raina and Jisshu Sengupta in key roles. Backed by Zee Studios, Brown is based on the book City of Death, penned by Abheek Barua.

What makes the upcoming series even more exciting is how dramatically it brings Karisma on screen. From her expressive intensity to the rugged, stripped-down look, the first glimpse suggests a fearless performance that breaks away from the polished image that the audiences have associated with her for decades.
