Vin Diesel gets emotional remembering Paul Walker at Cannes 2026 screening

Actor Vin Diesel became emotional during a special 25th anniversary screening of the Fast and Furious franchise at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, where he paid tribute to his late co-star and close friend Paul Walker. The event turned into an emotional reunion for the cast and fans, celebrating the legacy of one of Hollywood’s most successful action franchises.

Vin Diesel gets emotional

The midnight screening of the original 2001 film drew huge crowds to Cannes, with fans gathering outside the Grand Lumière Theatre to witness the celebration. Diesel arrived wearing a custom “Fast Forever” jacket, referencing the next installment of the franchise, reportedly scheduled for release in 2028. Co-stars Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, producer Neal H. Moritz, and Paul Walker’s daughter, Meadow Walker, also attended the event.

One of the most touching moments of the evening came when Diesel warmly embraced Meadow Walker on the red carpet. The actor, who shares a close bond with Meadow and even walked her down the aisle at her wedding in 2021, appeared visibly emotional throughout the tribute. Photos and videos from Cannes quickly went viral online, with fans praising the heartfelt reunion and remembering Walker’s lasting impact on the franchise.

Vin Diesel talks about the tribute

Inside the theatre, Diesel reflected on the journey of Fast and Furious and the brotherhood that defined the films. Speaking emotionally about Walker, who died in a car accident in 2013 at the age of 40, Diesel referred to him as “a brother.” He shared that Meadow’s presence at Cannes meant a lot to him and said he could not imagine attending the celebration without her beside him.

Audience members reportedly became emotional during the screening, with several fans seen in tears before giving the cast a standing ovation. The tribute served as both a celebration of the franchise’s 25-year journey and a heartfelt remembrance of Paul Walker’s legacy.

The Fast & Furious franchise, which began in 2001, has grown into a global blockbuster series worth billions at the box office. Despite the years that have passed since Walker’s death, his bond with Diesel and the cast continues to remain an emotional core of the franchise for fans around the world.
