Pantnagar police constable Ravindra Kurhe’s swift action led to the arrest of a chain-snatcher after a dramatic early-morning chase at Pushp Vihar Junction in Ghatkopar.
Targeted assault
According to police, 74-year-old Kishori Pravin Mehta, a Garodia Nagar resident, was on her routine walk around 6.35 am on April 15 when two men targeted her. “One accused approached from behind, pushed her and snatched her gold chain, causing a neck injury”, a police officer told mid-day.

The accused, identified as Mohammad Ali Shaukat Ali Mirza, 19, and his associate, Irfan, attempted to flee on a motorcycle toward the highway. Police said Irfan rode the bike while Mirza executed the snatching before jumping back onto the moving vehicle. Constable Kurhe, who was on patrol nearby and witnessed the act, chased the duo and intercepted Mirza, though Irfan managed to escape. A 28-gram gold chain with a diamond-studded pendant worth `2 lakh was recovered from his jeans pocket.
Case filed
Following a police complaint, a case was registered under sections 3(5) and 309(6) of the BNS, and further investigation is underway to trace the absconding accused. Meanwhile, Senior Police Inspector Lata Sutar felicitated Constable Kurhe for his prompt action.
