Mumbai continued to experience warm and dry weather on Sunday, with both its primary observatories—Colaba and Santacruz—recording temperatures above seasonal averages, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai.
Colaba registered a maximum temperature of 33.9 degrees Celsius, while Santacruz recorded a slightly higher 34.8 degrees Celsius. Despite the rise in daytime temperatures, no rainfall activity was reported in either part of the city during the 24-hour period, indicating stable and dry atmospheric conditions.
Temperatures Slightly Above Normal
IMD data shows that maximum temperatures at both stations were marginally above normal, reflecting a gradual increase in heat as the city moves further into the pre-monsoon phase. However, Mumbai remained relatively less intense compared to interior regions of Maharashtra, largely due to the moderating influence of the Arabian Sea.
Humidity levels fluctuated through the day but did not reach extreme levels, keeping overall discomfort manageable for residents despite the warm conditions.
Dry Spell Continues
Rainfall data from both Colaba and Santacruz showed 0.0 mm precipitation, confirming that Mumbai witnessed a completely dry day on April 19. The absence of rain aligns with the broader regional pattern of limited precipitation activity across Maharashtra.
Interior Maharashtra Sizzles
The IMD’s statewide weather bulletin highlights significantly higher temperatures in inland regions. Akola recorded the highest maximum temperature at 45.0 degrees Celsius, while cities like Nagpur (44.4 degrees Celsius) and Amravati (44.2 degrees Celsius) also experienced intense heat.
At the other end, Malegaon reported the lowest minimum temperature at 20.8 degrees Celsius, indicating notable temperature variation across districts.
Rain Likely in Pune
Meanwhile, Pune (Shivajinagar) is expected to see changing weather conditions on Monday. The IMD has forecast partly cloudy skies turning generally cloudy by afternoon or evening, with a possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, and light rainfall. Temperatures in Pune are likely to range around 40 degrees Celsius (maximum) and 23 degrees Celsius (minimum).
Overall, Mumbai is expected to remain warm and dry in the near term, while parts of Maharashtra may witness heatwave-like conditions along with isolated pre-monsoon activity.
