​Mumbai: Fire breaks out in multiple vehicles near Govandi, no injuries reported 

Flames tore through an illegal parking site in Govandi near the Ghatkopar–Mankhurd Link Road on Thursday morning, gutting a cluster of abandoned vehicles within minutes.

Fire Breaks Out, Thick Smoke Alerts Locals

The fire broke out around 11:40 am, with thick plumes of smoke drawing the attention of residents. Police and fire brigade personnel reached the spot by 11:45 am and brought the blaze under control shortly thereafter. No casualties were reported.

Several Abandoned Vehicles Damaged

Officials from the Deonar Police Station said that between five and eight parked cars were damaged in the incident. The vehicles were reportedly old and had been lying at the site for a long time.

CNG Cylinder Blast Suspected

Sub-Inspector Vijay Ambare said that a preliminary investigation suggests a possible CNG cylinder blast may have triggered the fire.

“We are investigating the exact cause and tracing the owners of the vehicles,” he said.

Eyewitnesses Describe Rapid Spread

The fire was first reported by a local resident, Altab, who alerted authorities as the flames spread rapidly.

“I saw smoke suddenly rising and within minutes the fire spread to multiple cars. I immediately informed the police,” he said.

Another eyewitness, Rahila, said, “Within minutes, the fire spread from one car to another.”

Resident Shilpa added, “We heard a loud sound and then saw flames. Everyone rushed out, fearing it would spread further.”

Swift Response Prevents Major Damage

Officials said the prompt response by emergency teams helped prevent the fire from spreading beyond the parked vehicles. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
