An advanced mobile cancer screening van was inaugurated at the National Cancer Institute on April 24, marking a step toward improving access to early cancer detection services in underserved areas.

The launch event was attended by Mohan Bhagwat, Devendra Fadnavis, and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Initiative Led by Social Organisation

The mobile screening unit has been introduced by the Mi Mumbai Abhiyan Abhiman Pratishthan, under the initiative of MLC Prasad Lad and Neeta Prasad Lad.

The organisation has been involved in social welfare activities for several years, working in areas such as healthcare, education, skill development, and support for underprivileged communities.

Focus on Rural and Underserved Areas

The mobile van is designed to travel to rural and remote locations, providing access to screening services for cancers such as breast, cervical, and oral cancer. The initiative aims to enable early diagnosis, which is critical for effective treatment and improved survival rates.

In addition to screening, the programme will include awareness campaigns to address misconceptions about cancer and encourage timely medical consultation.

Emphasis on Awareness and Early Detection

Health experts have consistently highlighted that early detection significantly increases the chances of successful treatment. The initiative seeks to promote this message through on-ground outreach, particularly in areas where access to healthcare infrastructure remains limited.

Dedicated in Memory

The mobile cancer screening van has been launched in memory of Sangeeta Minesh Lad, the late mother of Prasad Lad. The initiative is intended to contribute to improving public health outcomes and expanding access to preventive healthcare services.
