Need traffic signals
We request that traffic signals under the bridge going from Dahisar to Mira Road, just before the toll post, be installed at the earliest. To and fro traffic coming from the Highway and SV Road at the Ketkipada junction is completely out of control. Traffic light poles are seen installed at some spots, but are not operational. For the convenience of the citizens, to save fuel, to reduce air pollution, and to make everyone reach in time for work, please do the needful.

Broken steps at station
The staircase at the north end of platform No 1, at Andheri station, West, is broken and in a state of disrepair, since long. It causes a lot of discomfort while climbing up or down the steps particularly to senior citizens. Hope the authority concerned will take immediate remedial steps for the convenience of the public.

Poor renovation work
The railway station renovation work at Grant Road has been a complete mess. They’ve obstructed parts of the platform for over a month, only to take out old, functional flooring and replace it with a slightly different patterned one. Moreover, while doing the same, there are gaps on the platform 1-3 inches in height, exactly where people disembark from trains, making it very easy to accidentally trip over. I would like an explanation as to why my favourite station has been made into a dusty obstacle course edition of hop-skip-jump.

Filth in the river
When will trash in the Dahisar river be removed? Garbage continues to be thrown into the water body from the surrounding settlements.

Rusted, broken postbox
A rusted and broken red postbox has been lying in a severely damaged and unusable condition for several years on Yari Road, Andheri West, causing daily inconvenience and safety concerns for pedestrians.
The battered postbox stands precariously next to a concrete barrier and a “Sonia Apartments” signboard, with its door missing and structure heavily corroded. Surrounded by garbage and debris, it obstructs the footpath in a crowded commercial-residential area that also houses a pet shop, medical store, and bank ATM.
Locals say the damaged postbox has remained unattended for years despite repeated complaints. The narrow footpath, already congested with pedestrians, two-wheelers, and street vendors, becomes even more difficult to navigate because of this eyesore and potential hazard. The location falls under the Versova-Andheri West area. Residents urge the India Post authorities and BMC to immediately remove or repair the defunct postbox.

After Mumbaikars sent in their questions and woes to mid-day last Monday, some of the authorities concerned responded. We haven’t given up on the rest. We shall continue to hold authorities accountable for the state of the city.
Badly managed bus queues

Response: “We will try to reorganise the bus queues for a better experience at Malad and have instructed the local officials. The wait time continues to be longer due to the shortage of buses in the overall fleet in Mumbai, due to which a number of routes with low patronage have been reorganised and rerouted. The undertaking is in the process of buying a new fleet of buses and over 2000 are expected this year after which all depots will be covered adequately,” a senior BEST official said.
Aarey Milk booth on footpath

Response: The BMC says it will have to check if this is really an Aarey stall. However, Aarey stalls are part of a govt-approved scheme and are legally allowed to operate on footpaths, through a licence. Multiple licences are needd for such stalls, including licence to operate from a footpath or street. Licences are not give for no-hawking zones.

Response: Please refer to the mid-day report ‘DN Nagar’s Daily Obstacle Course’, (April 17) where commuters and auto drivers acknowledged the problem. However, as of the time of going to press, no response had been received from the K West BMC ward office regarding the issue raised.
Dog issue
Response: A BMC official said, “We have been informed about the issues faced by residents due to some dogs in Dahisar. With the assistance of an NGO, our team will soon visit the location and take necessary action.”
Auto menace

Response: DCP Traffic of the Zone Ajit Borhade, said, “It is not possible to make Santacruz an auto-free zone. For now, I will instruct the officers to make sure double parking, etc. don’t persist in areas with higher auto concentration.”
