Majlis partners with MAVIM to expand women-led legal support network

Majlis has partnered with MAVIM to expand the ‘Kayda Sathi’ cadre across Maharashtra.

According to a statement, the move is aimed at strengthening grassroots legal awareness among women.

MAVIM, a Maharashtra government body, works towards economic empowerment, social equity and self-reliance among women associated with Self Help Groups (SHGs), with a network of over 20 lakh members.

Under the collaboration, Majlis will conduct training programmes for ‘Master Kayda Sathis’ across all 36 districts of the state. Kayda Sathis are community-based legal volunteers drawn from SHGs who provide awareness and support to women on issues such as domestic violence, child sexual abuse, and workplace sexual harassment.

As part of the initiative, efforts will also be made to strengthen institutional linkages between these volunteers and key stakeholders, including courts, police, protection officers and child welfare committees.

“The initiative aims to build a robust grassroots support system to ensure better access to justice for women and children, with a focus on legal literacy and community-based intervention,” the statement said.
