Large parts of Maharashtra continued to experience hot and dry conditions on Wednesday, with temperatures remaining above normal across several regions, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Vidarbha scorches; Chandrapur tops chart

Vidarbha remained the hottest region in the state, with Chandrapur recording the highest maximum temperature at 45 degrees Celsius, significantly above normal levels.

Other cities in the region, including Akola, Nagpur and Wardha, also witnessed temperatures above 44 degrees Celsius, indicating persistent heatwave-like conditions.

Madhya Maharashtra sees rising temperatures

In Madhya Maharashtra, Jalgaon recorded a high of 43.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Malegaon at 43.2 degrees Celsius and Solapur at 42.2 degrees Celsius.

Pune registered a maximum temperature of 39.8 degrees Celsius, slightly above normal, while nights remained warmer than usual at 23.2 degrees Celsius.

Coastal belt relatively moderate

The Konkan-Goa region saw comparatively milder conditions, with Mumbai recording a maximum of 34.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25.8 degrees Celsius. However, temperatures still remained above seasonal averages in several coastal locations such as Alibag and Dahanu.

No rainfall activity across state

No significant rainfall was recorded across Maharashtra, with most weather stations reporting dry conditions. Humidity levels in Pune dropped from 41 per cent in the morning to 22 per cent by evening, reflecting dry atmospheric conditions.

Coolest night in Nashik

Nashik recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 20.6 degrees Celsius, offering slight nighttime relief compared to other regions.

Clear skies likely to persist

The IMD has forecast mainly clear skies for Pune on Thursday, with maximum and minimum temperatures expected to hover around 38 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius, respectively. Dry weather conditions are likely to continue across most parts of the state.

Maharashtra heatwave claims 67 lives, Nandurbar worst affected

Maharashtra is reeling under an intense heatwave, with 12 heatstroke deaths reported on Tuesday alone, pushing the cumulative toll to 67 till April 28. Nandurbar has emerged as the worst-affected district, accounting for 15 cases.

State health department data shows Nandurbar reported the highest cases (15), followed by Nashik (7) and Gadchiroli (6). Parbhani and Ratnagiri reported four cases each, while most districts logged one to two cases, indicating a scattered but statewide impact.
