The unexpected and unfortunate leak of Vijay`s final film, Jana Nayagan, has left the entire film fraternity in a state of shock and fury. Many have condemned the act rasing concerns about the future of cinema if such acts continue. Now, filmmaker Vignesh Shivan has also raised his voice against the breach, while recalling the incident when he spotted the film on a phone while he was in Madurai.

Filmmaker Vignesh Shivan recently recalled the shocking and emotional moment when he spotted a leaked version of Jana Nayagan being watched on a phone. He revealed that the incident took place while he was on his way to Madurai Airport, adding that it left him deeply disturbed.
Speaking on Behindwoods` Straight From Hearts with Rangraj Pandey, Shivan reflected on how the situation unfolded and how he reacted in that moment. “I couldn`t help it. I honestly felt like breaking it right then and there. It hurts that much to see our hard work treated like that,” Shivan said.
He admitted that his reaction was instinctive and expressed serious worry about how such a leak could take place in the first place. Vignesh claims it may not have been accidental, he said, “Someone with access did this on purpose. To us, a movie is like a god. We protect it and respect it with everything we have.”
Describing the leak as a major blow to the entire film industry, Shivan said, “The Jana Nayagan piracy leak was like death. We don`t know how the industry is going to compensate for this. Fans and people should celebrate in theatres. It is Thalapathy Vijay`s farewell film.”

Similarly, at an event for his latest film, LIK, the filmmaker said, “Every day, a film is getting dropped in Kollywood, and directors are being replaced. Today, the situation of directors is very worrisome. I won’t take names…okay, even if I do, let me tell them. A huge film has been leaked online. In this case, I would like to express my condolences to my friend, H Vinoth.”

Likening the pain of the leak to that of death, he added, “Because this is as painful as death. Only as a director can you feel that. Every single day, every single shot, I can feel how much the director has struggled. I can feel that pain as a director. When nothing goes as expected, it’s very difficult.”
