Jamie’s got her jam going

Screen is calling Jamie Lever again. A month after she was seen in Matka King, the comedienne and actor is readying for the release of her upcoming Bollywood offering. “I have shot for an out-and-out comedy. It will be releasing later this year,” she said. When pressed for details, the actor quipped, “My director told me, ‘Tu toh mooh hi mat kholna.’”

Comedy on screen comes with a script, but on stage, Lever has only her skills and judgment to deliver a successful set. While she has decided to stay away from political comedy, she acknowledges that comedians have to be mindful. “People in our country are sensitive. If you crack a joke at someone, they might not take offence as much as their followers do. Comedians have suffered because of that. We have a culture of showing respect. You have to be conscious of how people will react if you say something that’s out of their dictionary.”

Recalling the episode where comedian Samay Raina faced backlash for a remark made by social media influencer Ranveer Allahbadia on India’s Got Latent, Lever said, “Recently, Samay Raina opened up about what he went through, and it was so hard to hear that.”

She made her Bollywood debut with ‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon’ in 2015
