Indian Railways issues clarification on 30,000 job cut reports

The Indian Railways has issued a clarification stating that reports claiming it is “removing 30,000 posts” are incorrect.

No reduction in workforce, says Railways

Officials said that manpower rationalisation is a routine exercise that primarily involves the redistribution of posts that have become redundant over time, reallocating them to critical operational and safety categories.

Focus on efficiency and safety

The goal of this exercise is to better use our people and improve overall efficiency across the network.

More posts created in safety roles

For the financial year 2025-26, the Railways said that several thousand posts have been created in safety categories, and there has been no net reduction in the sanctioned strength.

Navi Mumbai woman duped of Rs 7.7 lakh in fake railway job scam

A 35-year-old woman from Navi Mumbai was allegedly cheated of Rs 7.7 lakh in a job scam after being lured with the promise of securing employment in the railways. The victim has been identified as Anita Patil, a housewife from Sanpada.

The Sanpada police said that they have registered an FIR based on the complaint by the victim on April 20, naming one Sachin Nalawade as the main accused and his associates, Raja Hegde, Ganesh Mokale, and Prathamesh Lad.

Scammer offered forged document

Police said the accused approached the complainant in November 2022, claiming they had contacts with the railways and could arrange a job for her. To make the offer appear genuine, they allegedly provided her with a fake appointment letter.

Trusting the assurances, the victim paid a total of Rs 18 lakh to the accused over a period of time. However, despite repeated follow-ups, the job never materialised.

Forged documents

Upon verifying the documents, the complainant discovered that the appointment letter was forged. She then demanded a refund from the accused.

Rs 10.30 lakh returned

The Police said the accused returned Rs 10.30 lakh but failed to repay the remaining Rs 7.70 lakh. With no resolution, the victim approached the Sanpada police and lodged a complaint.
