​Hot weather to continue in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar; IMD issues yellow alert 

Hot weather conditions will continue in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar district, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated in a weather bulletin, issuing a yellow alert.

The bulletin said that hot and humid conditions were very likely in isolated pockets of Mumbai, Thane and Palghar.

Earlier in the morning, the IMD predicted that Mumbai, Thane and Palghar was likely to witness partly cloudy skies during the morning hours, turning mainly clear by the evening.

The IMD has forecast a maximum temperature of around 36 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 27 degrees Celsius in Mumbai on Friday.

Thunderstorm alert

It stated that parts of Maharashtra including Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli and Solapur were very likely to witness thunderstorm accompanied with lightning.

A yellow alert was issued by the IMD, stating, “Light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) at isolated places was very likely.”

Heatwave alert in parts of Maharashtra

The weather department issued a heatwave alert for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Hingoli, Akola and Amravati districts in Maharashtra. A yellow alert issued by the IMD said, “Heatwave in isolated pockets. Possibility of light to moderate rain accompanied with thunderstorm towards afternoon/evening.”

Parts of Maharashtra swelter under heatwave

As Maharashtra continues to grapple with an unrelenting heatwave, temperatures across the state soared well above normal on Thursday, prompting concerns among residents and authorities alike.

In Pune, the maximum temperature touched 38.6 degrees Celsius, marking a departure of 1.1 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 25.7 degrees Celsius, which was 3.4 degrees higher than usual. 

The situation was far more severe in other parts of the state. Vidarbha emerged as the hottest region, with Akola recording the highest maximum temperature in Maharashtra at a blistering 45.9 degrees Celsius, a significant 3.7 degrees above normal. Several other stations also reported extreme readings, including Wardha at 45.5 degrees Celsius, Jalgaon at 45.3 degrees Celsius, Nagpur at 44.0 degrees Celsius, and Parbhani at 43.9 degrees Celsius. Even Pune’s Lohegaon airport area sizzled at 41.3 degrees Celsius. In contrast, the hill station of Mahabaleshwar provided some respite, recording the state’s lowest minimum temperature of 20.2 degrees Celsius.
