Fans wait outside theatres even as uncertainity looms around Karuppu release

Suriya and Trisha`s film Karuppu has landed in trouble. The film, which was scheduled to be released in theatres on May 14, has been delayed. On Thursday morning, it was informed that the 9 am special shows have been cancelled due to a financial dispute between producers. Later in the day, the makers also cancelled the afternoon show as uncertainity over the film`s release.

Fans wait outside theatres

Even as shows kept getting cancelled, fans of Suriya and Trisha were seen waiting outside cinema halls hoping for a positive news. The film has registered good pre-sales. However, with the cancellations of FDFS shows, the makers are looking at facing financial loss.

Videos of fans waiting outside cinema halls have surfaced on social media.

According to reports, Dream Warrior Pictures is facing a deficit of nearly Rs 100 crore, making it impossible to resolve all financial issues in a single day. Reports have also suggested that lead actor Suriya has stepped in to settle only the disputes related to his film. At present, it is expected that the issues will be resolved by evening on May 14.

The remaining financial and distribution-related challenges involving Dream Warrior Pictures are said to be matters that will have to be addressed gradually through upcoming projects, including Marshal and other future ventures.

RJ Balaji on Karuppu delay

Amid the delay, the film`s director RJ Balaji  put out a post on X, exuding faith in God and urging fans to keep the faith, saying the film would definitely release on Thursday.

Taking to his X timeline to give an update to fans, RJ Balaji said, “Dearest fans, I don`t have a concrete answer to the current situation. Producers are doing their best to solve the hurdles. This film has always had hurdles, and somehow God has made us sail through all that and here we are after 32 months. This time as well, I have faith, complete faith in him.”
