The Maratha-OBC conflict may once again come to the forefront in Maharashtra. After the Maratha community, the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community has now expressed its displeasure with the Mahayuti government (comprising the BJP, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP). At the OBC sub-committee meeting held in Mumbai on Tuesday, community leaders reportedly accused the government of ignoring their concerns and failing to protect their rights.

OBC leader Laxman Hake said promises have not been fulfilled. “Whether scholarships, hostels for students, budget allocations, or construction of buildings and infrastructure for community students and members, the government failed on all fronts,” he said.
The standoff
The Maratha-OBC conflict is likely to resurface in Maharashtra as both communities have expressed dissatisfaction with the state government. While OBC leaders have accused the government of neglecting their concerns, Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange has announced that he will restart his agitation from May 30.
