Railway union protests outside at CSMT, allege `anti-staff attitude` of admin

Members of the Mumbai railway union staged a protest outside the Divisional Railway Manager’s (DRM) office at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in south Mumbai, alleging `anti-staff attitude` of the administration.

The demonstration was organised by the Central Railway Mazdoor Sangh (CRMS) following disciplinary action involving a Mumbai CSMT-based ticket checker identified as Ram Khatape.

According to the union, ticket checking staff are facing increasing pressure while carrying out duties against ticketless passengers.

Protesters alleged that railway employees are being subjected to harassment, unrealistic revenue targets and inadequate institutional support from the railway administration.

Letter submitted to DRM

In a letter submitted to the Divisional Railway Manager, the union claimed that ticket checking staff often work under difficult and hostile conditions without sufficient legal or administrative protection during disputes with passengers.

The union further alleged that continuous pressure tactics and intimidation by authorities have created resentment and mental stress among employees.

CRMS stated that staff members are finding it increasingly difficult to perform their duties effectively due to fear of disciplinary action and lack of backing from senior officials.

Warning of action

Union representatives warned that if immediate corrective steps are not taken, the situation could result in further industrial unrest within the railway workforce.

The protest was organised to demand resolution of staff grievances and to oppose what the union described as an “anti-staff attitude” by the administration.

Railway authorities have not yet issued an official response regarding the protest or the allegations raised by the union.
