Mumbai and its suburbs witnessed mainly clear skies on Wednesday morning, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The weather department has forecast a maximum temperature of around 36 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius for the day, indicating warm and humid conditions across the city.

Air quality stays in ‘satisfactory’ category

Mumbai’s overall air quality remained in the ‘satisfactory’ category on Wednesday, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 59, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board’s Sameer App.

Several monitoring stations across the city also recorded satisfactory AQI levels.

Bandra Kurla Complex recorded an AQI of 58, while Borivali East stood at 61. Byculla reported an AQI of 49 and Andheri East recorded 74.

Chembur registered an AQI of 48, Colaba recorded 54, Ghatkopar stood at 69, and Kandivali reported an AQI of 51.

Air quality stable in MMR region

In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Thane recorded an AQI of 71, while Kalyan reported 78. Navi Mumbai registered an AQI of 59. All three locations continued to remain in the ‘satisfactory’ category.

Overall, weather and air quality conditions across Mumbai and adjoining areas remained stable, with no major concerns reported.

IMD issues yellow alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and neighbouring districts, warning of hot and humid weather conditions over the next few days. The alert will remain in effect between May 6 and May 9, with temperatures expected to rise and discomfort levels likely to increase, especially during the afternoon hours.

District-wise alert schedule

Mumbai, Thane and Raigad are under a yellow alert from May 6 to May 9, while Palghar will remain under alert from May 7 to May 9. Ratnagiri is under a yellow alert from May 6 to May 8.

Konkan districts likely to witness rain, thunderstorms

Ratnagiri is expected to experience hot and humid conditions along with the possibility of light rainfall in isolated areas.

Sindhudurg is likely to witness more varied weather activity, including hot and humid spells, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph at isolated locations.

Thunderstorm warning for Vidarbha

In Vidarbha, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for Bhandara district on Tuesday. The department has forecast thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of up to 40–50 kmph at isolated places.

Weather conditions expected to change from May 6

While most parts of Maharashtra are likely to remain dry on Tuesday, weather conditions are expected to change from May 6 onward, with several regions likely to experience a combination of heat, humidity, rainfall and thunderstorm activity.
