Maharashtra students demand fresh CET registration window post HSC results

Student organisations across Maharashtra have written to Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, seeking a fresh registration window for the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) after the declaration of HSC Std XII results.

The groups argue that many students may want to reconsider their academic choices after seeing their results and should be given another chance to apply for entrance exams. They have also sought a meeting with the minister at his residence and indicated plans to protest if their demand is not addressed.

CET Cell’s response

Officials said reopening registrations is not feasible.
>> Exam is conducted statewide
>> The academic calendar is already underway
>> Fresh registrations could delay results
>> Admission processes may be disrupted
>> Students were given multiple opportunities to register, including extended window in April.

Why do students want another window

>> HSC Class 12 results were declared on May 2
>> Students may wish to change academic streams after results
>> Vacant seats remain in several professional courses, claim students

Amar Ekad, president of the Care of Public Safety Association (COPS)

‘Some students may want to change their academic direction after seeing their marks. Moreover, we see seats remain empty for several pharmacy, engineering, and other professional courses like BBA and BCA. A retest would be a good opportunity to see that these seats are also filled’

CET timeline this year

>> Registrations opened in January
>> Multiple extensions granted over the following months
>> Special registration window reopened in April
>> Around 25,000 candidates applied during the April extension
>> CET is scheduled to be conducted twice this year, on the lines of JEE
