Television actress Nidhi Shah, best known for playing Kinjal in Anupamaa, recently opened up about her career journey, industry struggles, and rumours surrounding her personal and professional life.
In a candid interaction, Nidhi addressed the much-discussed rumours of a rift with co-star Rupali Ganguly. She clarified that while minor disagreements and misunderstandings can happen on any set, especially when many people work together closely, there was never any serious fallout between them. She described such moments as normal “nok-jhok” that arise due to differing perspectives, adding that they continue to share a cordial bond.

Talking about her journey, Nidhi reflected on her time on television with pride. She acknowledged that TV remains a powerful medium with a massive audience, especially across smaller cities, and has played a significant role in shaping her identity as an actor. However, she also admitted that her strong association with her character in Anupamaa has, at times, become a hurdle while exploring new opportunities. Casting directors often see her as “too familiar” or closely tied to one role, which makes it challenging to break into diverse projects, particularly on OTT platforms.
The actress, who took a brief break from television, is now preparing for a comeback through an OTT project. She shared that transitioning from TV to digital platforms isn’t easy, as OTT creators often look for fresh or less-recognisable faces. Despite these challenges, Nidhi remains optimistic and believes patience and persistence are key to evolving as an artist.

Looking back, Nidhi also revealed an interesting missed opportunity early in her career. She was once considered to play the daughter of Tulsi, the iconic character portrayed by Smriti Irani in the legendary show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. However, things did not materialise, and she had to let go of the project. She fondly recalled watching the show as a child and expressed admiration for Smriti Irani, calling her an icon.
Speaking about her exit from Anupamaa, Nidhi said she parted on a positive note and has no regrets. While she occasionally misses the set and the bond she shared with her co-stars, she considers it a fulfilling chapter of her life. She now looks forward to new challenges and opportunities, determined to grow beyond her established television image.
