Patriot: Mammootty says film with Mohanlal is not pan-India film

Mohanlal and Mammootty-starrer Patriot is one of the most anticipated films of the year. The Malayalam film, also starring Revathy, Nayanthara, and Fahadh Faasil, and directed by Mahesh Narayanan, has kept the buzz high ever since it was announced. Ahead of the release of the espionage thriller, the cast was recently seen gathering for a press meet in Kochi. At the event, Mammootty opened up about the film and revealed that Patriot is intended primarily for the Kerala audience. He also added that the much-anticipated film is not a pan-India release.

Mammootty says Patriot is not a pan-India film

During the press meet in Kochi, Mammootty said, “This film is made for Malayalis. While we hope it may eventually find an audience outside Kerala, the primary goal was to cater to the people of Kerala, whose cinematic tastes have evolved significantly over the years. This is not a pan-India film… Patriot will be a game-changer. It will set a new standard, and hopefully, open the doors for more big-budget films in Malayalam cinema.”

Mammootty also addressed the fight sequences between Mohanlal and himself that are seen in the trailer of the film. The veteran actor shared that the sequences are kept for a reason. “These fights are not included just for spectacle. There’s a deeper reason behind them, which will become clear once the audience sees the film,” he shared.

About Patriot

The story of Patriot revolves around a retired JAG officer, portrayed by Mammootty. He is wrongfully framed for espionage. Nevertheless, determined to clear his name and protect the nation, the officer embarks on a covert mission. Mohanlal, who plays a battle-hardened armed forces operative in the film, joins him in this high-stakes operation.

Tension rises as Fahadh Faasil’s character seems to be deeply concerned about the two joining forces. This narrative hints at a complex narrative filled with power struggles and intrigue.

Notably, Patriot marks the first collaboration between actors Mammootty and Mohanlal together after 13 years. They were last seen together in the 2013 film Kadal Kadannu Oru Maathukutty. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on May 1, 2026
