Mammootty, Mohanlal’s Patriot faces delay after CBFC demands THIS change

The much-anticipated Malayalam film Patriot, starring Mammootty and Mohanlal, has reportedly hit a fresh hurdle, with its release now hanging in uncertainty due to issues with the censor board.

Patriot in trouble before release

According to reports, the film’s certification process has run into trouble after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) raised objections to the name of one of the antagonists. The character’s name is said to closely resemble that of a real-life political figure’s family member, prompting concerns over potential controversy.

As a result, the CBFC has asked the makers to make changes, including altering the character’s name. This demand has reportedly delayed the certification, pushing the film into a state of limbo despite being one of the most awaited releases of the year. The makers are now faced with the decision of either implementing the suggested cuts or negotiating further with the board.

All about the film

Patriot, directed by Mahesh Narayanan, is a high-budget espionage thriller that marks the reunion of Mammootty and Mohanlal after several years—a major draw for fans. The film also features an ensemble cast including Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, and Nayanthara, adding to the anticipation around its release.

Originally slated for an April release, the film has already seen delays due to multiple issues, including logistical challenges and certification-related concerns. Reports earlier indicated that even the censor certification timeline had contributed to postponements.

Despite these setbacks, Patriot remains one of the most talked-about projects in Malayalam cinema. The scale of the film, combined with its star power and political undertones, has kept audiences eagerly waiting. Industry insiders believe that once the certification issues are resolved, the film could still see a strong theatrical release, potentially around its planned May window.

For now, however, the film’s fate depends on how quickly the makers can address the censor board’s concerns. Whether through edits or revisions, the next move will be crucial in determining when audiences will finally get to see this ambitious project on the big screen.

As fans await clarity, the situation highlights how regulatory hurdles can significantly impact even the biggest productions, leaving major releases in uncertainty despite massive buzz and expectations.
