Bhooth Bangla: Ekta Kapoor planning a sequel to the horror comedy

Akshay Kumar and director Priyadarshan recently reunited after a long time for their latest horror comedy, Bhooth Bangla, which hit the screens on April 17. Although the film received a mixed response from critics, the horror-comedy struck a chord with a section of the audience, who seemed to enjoy the film in theatres after a really long time. According to recent reports, the positive reception has encouraged makers to consider creating a sequel.

Bhooth Bangla 2 on the cards?

According to an IndiaToday report, a source close to development told the portal, “Given the love and response that Bhooth Bangla has received from families, the makers are definitely exploring the idea of taking the franchise forward. It’s an exciting space, and thus a sequel looks very much on the cards.” Although the project is still in its early stages, the source added that due to Ekta Kapoor`s interest in the horror-comedy space, she is looking at a world to revisit with more stories.

About Bhooth Bangla

The story of the Bhooth Bangla revolves around Arjun, played by Akshay Kumar, who becomes the owner of a haunted ancestral mansion in a quiet village called Mangalpur. While he is preparing for his sister Meera`s wedding, played by Mithila Palkar, unsettling supernatural events begin to unfold, disrupting their plans.

Meanwhile, there is the mystery of the ghostly legend of Vadhusur, an evil demon associated with a long-forgotten underground temple. As Arjun goes on to investigate the building`s past, he encounters terrified villagers and a mysterious female spirit, who is entangled in a tree. Bhooth Bangla blends supernatural elements with Priyadarshan`s signature style of slapstick and chaotic comedy. It is later discovered that the source of the terrifying elements is the sinister rituals mentioned in Indian folklore, mythology, and ancient texts.

Interestingly, Bhooth Bangla features Akshay Kumar in two roles, Arjun Acharya and Madhav Acharya. Similarly, Wamiqa Gabbi also has a double role as Priya and Chitra. Tabu portrays Yashodha, while Paresh Rawal plays Jagdish Manikchand Roopkamal Kewalramani. Rajpal Yadav is seen as Sunder `Balli` Bajwa. Additionally, the film also stars late veteran actor Asrani, Jisshu Sengupta, and Manoj Joshi, among others.
