The actress recently shared updates on the rising crimes against women through her Instagram Stories. Over the past few days, India has witnessed several deaths of young women allegedly linked to dowry harassment and mental torture. Amid this, the actress also reacted to a shocking viral video showing a group of men making obscene gestures towards a wall mural of a woman.
Bhumi Pednekar slams indecent behaviour
Bhumi took to her Instagram Stories on Sunday and reshared a video posted by Tube Indian. In the clip, a group of men can be seen behaving inappropriately towards a painting of a woman near a swimming pool. The video quickly went viral and triggered strong reactions online.
Sharing the clip, Bhumi wrote, “This is the mentality of our youth. These are the same people who are going to sexually assault children and women. We are in a pandemic. Just words and showing shame isn`t enough. Stricter laws, stricter laws, stricter laws.”
Kangana Ranaut’s advice for young women
Several recent deaths allegedly linked to dowry harassment have shocked the country. Actress Twisha Sharma was reportedly found dead at her marital home in Bhopal, while another woman, Deepika Nagar, allegedly died after falling from the balcony of her residence in Noida. In both cases, the women’s families accused their in-laws of dowry harassment.
The incidents have sparked outrage on social media, with many demanding stricter laws against dowry-related crimes and stronger support systems for women facing abuse after marriage.
Reacting to the incidents, Kangana Ranaut shared a lengthy note on Instagram, calling out societal attitudes and urging women to prioritise financial independence before marriage.
“So many tragic news stories about married young women come up every day. Many of these educated young women even beg their parents to help them out of suffocating situations before tragedies strike them, but Indian society is notorious for abandoning daughters once they are married,” Kangana wrote.
The actress and BJP MP further encouraged women to focus on building careers and independent identities first. “Your career is more important than anyone else in your life. Think about marriage only after you are independent. You have to be your own hero; no one is coming to save you. What you do and who you are is more important than who you marry. Build a life that you want,” she added.
