Freddy Daruwala is set to return as the sharp and manipulative politician Veer in Inspector Avinash 2, and the actor says audiences will get to witness a far more layered side of his character this season. In an exclusive conversation with mid-day, Freddy opened up about the evolution of Veer’s character arc, the excitement of working in an ensemble cast, and why he now wants to explore comedy films after playing several intense roles.
Freddy Daruwala gets candid about the new season
Talking about the new season, Freddy revealed that Inspector Avinash 2 is much grander in scale and storytelling compared to the first instalment. According to him, Veer’s motivations and personal life will now become clearer to the audience.
“This season, he is more layered, more complex, more motivated for his actions,” Freddy shared. “He gets into trouble every now and then, but he comes out victorious and just the way his things are. So yes, definitely more grandeur.”
The actor further explained that viewers will see Veer’s personality unfold in unexpected ways throughout the season. “The season two brings in my character, in Veer’s character, a lot of complexity. His motivations are now being more and more visible. Personal life is being more and more visible and motivations are being more and more visible. You understand where his character arc is going,” he said.
Freddy also hinted that audiences may not view Veer the same way as before. “It is not going to be the same as it has been. Your perception about Veer is going to change from time to time,” he added.
Freddy Daruwala opens up about working with ensemble cast
During the conversation, Freddy also spoke about working in projects with ensemble casts and why he enjoys being part of stories driven by multiple strong characters. While admitting that every actor enjoys being the centre of attention, he said certain stories become more impactful when different characters contribute equally to the narrative.
“Everybody likes to be the center of attention, but sometimes the story doesn’t demand that,” he explained. Referring to films and shows like Golmaal, Dhamaal, and Mirzapur, Freddy said ensemble storytelling often creates more depth and entertainment for audiences.
“Every character enhances another character. It brings out the performance and complexity in the other character that the audience loves,” he shared. “I’m happier that way. Of course, I would love to do a solo lead, but right now I’m enjoying this.”
Interestingly, the actor also admitted that he now wants to move away from intense and negative roles for a while and explore lighter genres. “I want to do comedy films,” Freddy revealed. “Doing a lot of negative characters actually takes away the fun in real life.”
Calling himself “a funny guy” in real life, Freddy shared that constantly portraying serious characters can begin affecting an actor mentally. “The characters sometimes creep inside you, and then you want to break free and do something different,” he said.
Apart from comedy, Freddy also expressed his desire to headline a sports biopic someday. “I have a script of a brilliant sports film, and I just want that film to take shape now,” he concluded.
