Kamal Haasan meets TN CM Vijay, shares THESE six demands for Tamil Film industry 

Actor and politician Kamal Haasan has been all praise for Vijay`s political endeavours despite being from the opposition. Recently, Kamal shared that he met the newly elected Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Vijay, and submitted 6 demands for the support needed in the Tamil film industry. He even shared a couple of pictures from their meeting.

Kamal took to X (formerly Twitter) to share details about the meeting and the pictures. In the caption, originally in Tamil, he wrote that he was proud of the humility and affection that Vijay showed towards him. He wrote, “Today, I met in person with the Honorable Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Brother Vijay TVKVijayHQ, and conveyed my best wishes. He enthusiastically shared many dreams for the betterment of Tamil Nadu. The humility and affection he displayed during the meeting filled me with pride.” (sic)

He further went on to add, “I have made 6 important demands to the Tamil Nadu government, emphasising the need for support and warmth for the Tamil film industry, which is facing various obstacles. May the benefits flourish.”

A few days ago, when asked whether he had any advice for another actor from the film industry who has joined politics, Kamal had said, “My congratulations to the new government of Tamil Nadu. The closure of 717 liquor shops is a welcome move. It has been discussed for a long time and has now been implemented. It is appreciable.” He added, “We should not just see Vijay as a film star. He has other responsibilities as well. Anyone can come to politics from any field. It is a matter of pride that Vijay has come to power from our industry.”

Six demands by Kamal Haasan

 A few hours after sharing about his meeting with Vijay, Kamal shared the demands he submitted in an official statement. The requests are as follows: 

  • Launching Tamil Nadu government OTT platform, where Tamil audience can access Tamil cinema, independent films and documentaries, at affordable and subsidised rates.
  • Abolition of the local body entertainment tax levied at 4 per cent.
  • Forming a strong anti-piracy team by the creation of an anti-piracy enforcement team within the Tamil Nadu Police Cyber Crime Department.
  • Permitting 5 shows per day for all films in Tamil Nadu. This aims at improving theatre revenues and supporting the recovery of the film exhibition sector.
  • Mandatory enforcement of an 8-week OTT window for all films released in Tamil Nadu.
  • Introduction of a film production incentive scheme to 10 per cent of the budget for Indian films that complete more than 50 per cent of their shooting in Tamil Nadu.
