In a major boost to Maharashtra’s technology and industrial sector, the state government on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with AM Intelligence Labs Private Limited for an investment of Rs 1.14 lakh crore.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The project includes the development of an Integrated Green Data Centre Park and an AI Compute Hub in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
According to the MoU, the project will generate 8,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities. This includes jobs for skilled and semi-skilled youth, particularly software engineers, data scientists, and operations teams. Additionally, around 2,000 jobs are expected to be created during the construction phase.
The entire project will be powered by renewable energy, making it an environment-friendly initiative. It will have a total capacity of 500 MW and will use 2,50,000 high-capacity AI chipsets. The project will be developed in two phases — the first 200 MW phase is targeted for completion by 2028 and the second 300 MW phase by 2030.
The development will be carried out under Maharashtra’s Information Technology Policy 2023 and the Green Integrated Data Centre Park Policy 2024.
Speaking on the occasion, senior officials including Principal Secretary (Industries) Dr P Anbalagan, Industries Commissioner Deependra Singh Kushwaha, and other senior bureaucrats were present. From AM Intelligence Labs, Chairman Anil Chalmalasetty, Director Maurya Payda, and Vice-President Pankaj Kumar attended the signing ceremony.
The state government expects this massive investment to position Maharashtra as a leading hub for Artificial Intelligence and digital infrastructure at both national and global levels.
Maharashtra Cabinet clears AI policy 2026
The Maharashtra Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, approved a series of policy decisions on Wednesday, including a comprehensive Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy, a major green energy programme, and measures in education, environment, and social welfare.
Maharashtra AI Policy 2026 targets Rs 10,000-crore investment
The Cabinet approved the Maharashtra AI Policy 2026, aimed at accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence across industries, governance, and public services. The policy sets a target of attracting over Rs 10,000 crore in investment and generating more than 1.5 lakh jobs by 2031.
Modelled on the India AI Mission, the policy focuses on research, innovation, and responsible deployment of AI technologies. The government also plans to train around 2 lakh youth and professionals in AI-related skills.
A seven-pillar framework underpins the policy, including the development of statewide AI infrastructure, creation of AI-focused innovation clusters, and the establishment of a State AI Data Exchange. It also proposes a dedicated Maharashtra AI Mission and a Centre for Advanced AI Training.
To support industry adoption, the state will offer incentives such as a 20 per cent subsidy for MSMEs adopting AI and the creation of a Rs 500 crore startup fund, jointly backed by the government and industry. Additional benefits include capital subsidies, stamp duty exemptions, and financial support for patents and certifications.
