On Wheel of Fortune, viewers will see Akshay Kumar sharing a humorous yet heartfelt moment with contestant Sonali, where he says he feels inferior in front of highly educated people.
Akshay Kumar says he feels intimidated by highly educated people
Akshay Kumar introduced contestant Sonali by mentioning that she holds multiple academic degrees and asked her, “Aap degree lete ja rahe ho, jana kahan hain?” Sonali replied, “Sir, dekhiye in degrees ki wajah se hi mujhe yahan khade hone ka mauka mil raha hai aur aapse doosri baar milne ka bhi mauka mila hai.”
(“You keep obtaining one degree after another, here do you want to reach in life? Sonali replied, `Sir, because of the degrees that I got the opportunity to be here and meet you for the second time.`”
Impressed by her achievements, Akshay Kumar praised her and said that he sometimes feels very small in front of highly educated people. He shared “Koi bhi insaan, khaaskar mujh jaisa jo zyada padha likha nahi hai, main kabhi kabhi bahut chhota mehsoos karta hoon aap jaise logon ke saamne. Kabhi kabhi main sochta hoon mujhe padhna chahiye. Ab mehsoos hota hai ki kaash main padha hota. Lekin ab jab padhna chahta hoon tab bhi nahi padh sakta, kyunki mujhe padhna achha hi nahi lagta, bas itni si baat hai.”
(“Anybody who is less educated like me sometimes feels inferior in front of people like you. Sometimes I think I should study further. Now when I think about it, I wish that I had studied further. But even though I want to study now, I cannot, because I do not enjoy studying, that`s all”)
Akshay stresses the importance of education
He further shared about his wife being a writer and said, “Meri patni lekhak hai, woh kitabe likhti hai. Ek nahi, do nahi, teen nahi, chaar likh chuki hai aur ab ek aur likh rahi hai. Aap vishwas nahi karenge, maine ek bhi kitab nahi padhi hai. Jab bhi main padhne baithta hoon, pata nahi kya hota hai, aankhon se aansu nikalne lagte hain.” He then asked Sonali, “Teacher ji, aisa kyun lagta hai jab main padhne baithta hoon toh aankhon se paani nikalta hain?”
(“My wife is an author. She has written four books and is currently writing another one. You won`t believe it, but I haven`t read any of her books. Whenever I try to read them, I start crying. `Why does it happen that whenever I sit down to read, my eyes start watering?`”)
On a more serious note, Akshay added that education is very important and he always encourages his children to study as much as possible. He also mentioned that his wife recently completed her Master’s degree and is now planning to pursue a PhD. He concluded with an important message, saying, “Main bas yeh kehna chahta hoon ki padho, padhna bahut zaruri hai. Mujh jaise ko follow mat karo, Sonali jaise logon ko follow karo.”
(“I just want to say that everyone should study, it is very important to study. Don`t follow people like me, follow people like Sonali”)
