Vietnam`s Vingroup to invest USD 8.5 billion in Maharashtra: Devendra Fadnavis

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday announced that Vietnam-based conglomerate Vingroup has committed to investing USD 8.5 billion in the state over the next two years. The large-scale investment is expected to significantly boost infrastructure, electric mobility, and tourism, while generating thousands of employment opportunities, reported PTI.

Major Investment Across Multiple High-Growth Sectors

The proposed investment will span a wide range of sectors, including electric mobility, smart residential townships, renewable energy, tourism, and social infrastructure. According to officials, the projects are expected to be developed across approximately 5,000 acres in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and other key locations in Maharashtra, reported PTI.

Fadnavis described the investment as timely and strategic, stating that it would accelerate the state’s transition towards sustainable development and modern infrastructure.

MoU Signed to Formalise Strategic Partnership

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Vingroup, the state industries department, and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority in the presence of the chief minister, reported PTI.

The agreement outlines a roadmap for the development of integrated urban ecosystems, aimed at enhancing both economic growth and quality of life. The chief minister assured full administrative support to ensure smooth execution of the projects.

Nearly 25,000 Jobs Expected to Be Created

The investment is projected to generate approximately 24,700 direct jobs, providing a major boost to employment in the state. Officials highlighted that the scale of the projects would also create indirect employment opportunities across multiple industries, including construction, services, and manufacturing, reported PTI.

Fadnavis emphasised that such investments would strengthen Maharashtra’s position as a leading destination for global investors.

Smart Townships and Electric Mobility at Core

A key component of the investment includes the development of large smart residential townships spread over nearly 2,700 acres. These townships are expected to house around 2,00,000 people and will be designed as sustainable, environmentally friendly urban spaces, reported PTI.

In the mobility sector, Vingroup plans to introduce large-scale electric taxi services and develop a mobility-as-a-service platform, aimed at promoting clean and efficient urban transport solutions.

Focus on Healthcare, Education, and Clean Energy

The company also plans to establish international-standard schools and multi-speciality hospitals, along with a statewide electric vehicle charging network. These facilities will be developed across nearly 170 acres and are expected to enhance social infrastructure in the region, reported PTI.

In addition, a 500 MW solar power project is proposed over approximately 1,200 acres, reinforcing the state’s push towards renewable energy and sustainability.

Tourism Projects to Boost Regional Economy

To strengthen Maharashtra’s tourism sector, Vingroup has proposed developing an international-standard theme park, along with a zoo and safari, across nearly 865 acres. These projects are expected to attract visitors, generate employment, and contribute to the regional economy, reported PTI.

Vision for a Dynamic Urban Future

Fadnavis said that the Mumbai and Raigad region is poised to emerge as one of the most dynamic urban hubs globally, driven by such large-scale investments. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to facilitating business and resolving any challenges faced by investors.
