Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh’s film Alpha was initially slated to release in theatres last year. However, the film’s release was pushed to April this year. Now, the makers have decided to release the film in July.

Ishita Moitra on rumours about Alpha

With the film facing multiple delays, several rumours about the project began circulating on social media. Alpha will mark the first female-led spy drama from the YRF Spy Universe. However, after War 2 failed to impress, rumours suggested that the makers were revisiting Alpha.

On Monday, the makers of Alpha announced the new release date with a fresh poster. The film is now locked for a July 10 theatrical release and will also star Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol.

After the release date announcement, writer Ishita Moitra took to her Instagram Stories and took a dig at the rumours surrounding the film, especially those circulating on Reddit.

Sharing the announcement post, Ishita- who is the dialogue writer of Alpha- wrote, “Reddit pe na jaao, apni akal lagao.”

Ishita Moitra is an Indian screenwriter known for films such as Always Kabhi Kabhi (2011), Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023), Bad Newz (2024), Nadaaniyan (2025), and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari (2025).

Alpha release date announced

Yash Raj Films (YRF), Alia Bhatt and Sharvari took to their respective official accounts on Instagram to share a teaser poster with a glimpse of Alia Bhatt`s bruised look. Only her eye and face are visible in the picture, partly, creating a sense of intrigue and intensity.

The sleek, dark and mysterious design is characterised by black and metallic gold tones. The poster has “A” written in Greek letters. Below the title, the names of actors Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol are also mentioned, followed by the theatrical release date “10.07.26 – Only in Cinemas” prominently displayed below.

About Alpha

Alpha marks Alia`s first film with Yash Raj Films. It is also the first female-led out-and-out action film of India starring Alia and Sharvari. Alpha is directed by Shiv Rawail, who had previously directed YRF`s global hit series The Railway Men. The film has been produced by Aditya Chopra.

Interestingly, the upcoming spy film was earlier scheduled to hit the screens on December 25, 2025. However, the film couldn`t meet the deadline and was postponed. It was rumoured that the film would be released in April 2026. Nevertheless, the official announcement puts all rumours to rest.

Alpha also stars Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol in pivotal roles. Alia and Sharvari are expected to lock horns with Bobby in this brutal showdown.
