Plot of Yash`s Toxic unveiled, movie to span from 1940s to 1970s in Goa

Yash-starrer Toxic is just a month away from release. Apart from intriguing character posters, the makers have revealed little about the film. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic is a period gangster drama, as hinted by its posters and teaser. Now, fresh details about the film’s plot have surfaced. The UAE distributor, Phars Film, has listed the storyline on its website.

Toxic plot

According to Phars Film’s website, Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups is set in Goa and spans from pre-Independence India to the post-Independence era. The narrative begins in the early 1940s and continues until the 1970s.

The synopsis reads, “Set in Goa between the early 1940s and the 1970s, Toxic is a savage action-thriller saga that plunges into the rot festering beneath paradise. In this coastal land of fading colonial shadows and rising crime syndicates, a man forges his empire through blood, fear, and betrayal.”

It further states, “Power is not granted- it is seized, and it always demands repayment. As smuggling routes become battlegrounds and loyalties unravel into suspicion, paranoia becomes a means of survival. In the end, the only force more powerful than the consequences of his choices is the abyss within him.”

The website also mentions that the film has been rated 18+, though this is yet to be officially confirmed.

Toxic makes historic deal for international distribution

On the international front, Toxic has been acquired by Phars Film, one of the leading overseas distributors, marking another milestone in the film’s pre-release journey. The deal is reportedly among the highest-ever overseas acquisitions for an Indian film, with Rs 105 crore secured as an advance on a commission basis — a strong vote of confidence from the global market.

Notably, the deal applies exclusively to the Indian-language versions (Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam) and does not include the English version, underscoring the standalone strength of the film’s Indian-language appeal overseas.

The Yash-starrer is gearing up for what is being planned as the widest international rollout ever for an Indian film, with releases scheduled worldwide except Nepal, Japan, and China. The move positions Toxic as a major global cinematic event.

Written by Yash and Geetu Mohandas and directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups has been simultaneously shot in Kannada and English, with dubbed versions planned in multiple languages, highlighting its global ambitions.
