The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, predicting hot weather conditions in isolated pockets of the city and some of its adjoining areas. 

In a weather bulletin, the IMD stated “hot and humid conditions” were likely at isolated pockets in Mumbai.

The IMD weather bulletin for March 4 stated that Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad, indicating that these districts in Maharashtra may experience hot and humid conditions in isolated pockets.

Meanwhile, Mumbai recorded a minimum temperature of 24.0 degrees Celsius at Colaba and 22.6 degrees Celsius at Santacruz on Wednesday, as per IMD data.

Rise in AQI

The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has risen to 103 after nearly a week of significant improvement. 

A light haze was visible across parts of Mumbai on Wednesday. After citizens enjoyed a couple of days of cleaner air, the AQI has once again climbed.

An AQI of 103 falls under the ‘satisfactory’ category. However, it may cause breathing discomfort to people with lung disorders, asthma, and heart diseases.

National weather update: Western Disturbance to impact Himalayas from March 6; Delhi temperatures set to rise

A Western Disturbance, seen as a trough in the middle-level tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 kilometres above mean sea level, is currently positioned roughly along Longitude 52 degrees East to the north of Latitude 25 degrees North, according to the IMD.

An upper air cyclonic circulation persists over central Pakistan and adjoining areas at about 1.5 kilometres above mean sea level. Meanwhile, the subtropical westerly jet stream, with core wind speeds of around 105 knots at 12.6 kilometres above mean sea level, continues to prevail over northwest India.

The IMD has also indicated that another fresh Western Disturbance is likely to impact the Western Himalayan region from March 6, 2026.

Temperature outlook

The weather office has forecast a gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next four days, with no significant change thereafter. Minimum temperatures are expected to remain above normal (1.6 degrees Celsius to 3.0 degrees Celsius) to appreciably above normal (3.1 degrees Celsius to 5.0 degrees Celsius) over the next seven days.

Maximum temperatures are also likely to increase by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next five days, followed by no major change. They are expected to remain appreciably above normal (3.1 degrees Celsius to 5.0 degrees Celsius) to markedly above normal (5.1 degrees Celsius or more) during the coming week.

Wind conditions

Sustained surface winds with speeds of 15 to 25 kilometres per hour are expected during the daytime on March 4 and 5, with occasional gusts reaching up to 35 kilometres per hour.

Weather past 24 hours in Delhi

Over the past 24 hours, no significant change was recorded in minimum or maximum temperatures across Delhi, as per IMD. 

Minimum temperatures ranged between 14 degrees Celsius and 16 degrees Celsius, while maximum temperatures were between 29 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees Celsius.

Minimum temperatures were above normal by 1.6 degrees Celsius to 3.0 degrees Celsius at most places, while maximum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1 degrees Celsius to 5.0 degrees Celsius) at many locations and above normal at isolated places.

Sustained southwesterly surface winds of 15 to 25 kilometres per hour prevailed during the day, with gusts touching up to 37 kilometres per hour.
