With Mumbai and its adjoining areas reeling in hot weather conditions, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a yellow alert for the city, Thane, Palghar and Raigad district. The weather department has predicted hot weather conditions on Monday.
“Hot and humid conditions in isolated pockets were likely,” the yellow alert stated.
Mumbai was on Monday likely to experience a warm and sunny day with mainly clear skies and a mostly dry weather, according to the weather department bulletin on March 9 morning.
The Regional Met Centre (RMC) in Mumbai stated that the minimum temperature in the city was on Monday morning recorded at 21.3 degrees Celsius at the Santacruz observatory and at Colaba the minimum temperature was recorded at 24 degrees Celsius.
It said that the maximum temperature was likely to hover between 35.8 and 33.6 degrees Celsius on March 9.
“Haze during morning hours and mainly clear sky towards afternoon/evening. Hot and humid condition very likely to prevail in city and suburbs,” a weather bulletin said.
According to the RMC, the sun rose at 06:52 am and is expected to set at 18:46 pm.
Residents can expect a warm and largely sunny day, typical of early March conditions in the city.
AQI in Mumbai
According to the Central Pollution Control Board`s (CPCB) Sameer app, Mumbai’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was on Monday morning recorded `Moderate` at 09:05 am and stood at 115.
A health impact message stated, “Breathing discomfort to people with lung disorders, asthma and heart diseases.”

Meanwhile, the air quality was recorded as `Moderate` in Thane which reported an AQI at 115 on Monday morning.
In Kalyan AQI was recorded at 147, and in Navi Mumbai at 124 both were in `Moderate` categories.
Hot afternoons in Mumbai
Mumbai is currently experiencing warm weather, with temperatures ranging between 25 degrees Celsius in the mornings and rising up to 36 degrees Celsius during the day.
The city and surrounding suburbs are seeing mainly clear skies, light north-easterly winds, and moderate humidity levels.
