Mumbai gets 10 vehicle-mounted mobile pumps for quick redressal of waterlogging

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has prepared 10 vehicle-mounted mobile pumps to quickly drain water in case of waterlogging during the monsoon season.

Each vehicle has been mounted with two pumps, each with a capacity to drain 250 cubic meters of water per hour. These vehicles will be deployed in addition to 514 dewatering pumps located across the city at known waterlogging spots, officials said.

These vehicles are alternative arrangements and will act as quick-response units in case of failure of an existing pump or will be deployed to areas experiencing severe waterlogging in parts of the city.

The pumps have been leased for a period of four years, from 2025 to 2028.

These will be stationed as follows:

One for each Zonal Deputy Commissioner`s office (total 7).

One each for the offices of the Deputy Chief Engineer (Operation and Maintenance), Deputy Chief Engineer (Eastern Suburbs), and Deputy Chief Engineer (Western Suburbs) of the Storm Water Drainage Department (total 3).

Crew will be available in three shifts, ensuring 24-hour operation daily.
