​Maharashtra: Fire breaks out in Dahanu`s girls hostel; no injuries reported 

A fire broke out in a girls` hostel of a state-run ashram school in Maharashtra`s Palghar district on Thursday, though there are no reports of injuries as all 87 inmates were successfully evacuated, a civic official said.

The blaze erupted at 5.20 pm at the hostel of the school located in Kandarwadi village in Dahanu taluka, Palghar District Disaster Management Cell chief Vivekanand Kadam told PTI.

“A total of 87 girls were staying in the hostel. All of them have been safely evacuated. There are no report of injuries. After authorities were alerted by teacher Chitra Chougule, fire brigade teams from Dahanu rushed to the spot and started relief and rescue operations at 6:03pm. The process of dousing the fire is underway,” he said.

The extent of damage and cause would be known after the blaze was brought under control, Kadam added.

Fire breaks out at Thane auto garage compound, six vehicles gutted

A fire broke out in garbage and several parked vehicles at an auto garage in Wagle Estate area of Thane in the early hours of Thursday, officials said. No injuries were reported in the incident. 

According to the Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), the fire was reported at around 12:59 am on March 5, 2026, after information was received from the Wagle Fire Station.

The blaze occurred in garbage and six four-wheeler vehicles parked in an open space at Achutanand Auto Garage, located at Arastu Compound, Hanuman Nagar, Road No. 28, Wagle Estate, Thane (West). The garage owner has been identified as Babu Behera.

Personnel from the Police, along with fire brigade teams equipped with two fire engines and two rescue vehicles, and staff from the Disaster Management Cell with a pickup vehicle rushed to the spot and launched firefighting operations.

Officials said the fire was completely extinguished by around 1:50 am, and the situation was brought under control.

Vehicles damaged in the fire 

A Maruti Swift (MH 04 DR 4671) sustained internal damage due to the fire, while a Maruti 800, Maruti Suzuki Eeco, and Tata Indigo were completely gutted. The owners of these vehicles are yet to be identified.

In addition, two scrap vehicles – a Hindustan Ambassador and a Tata ACE – were completely destroyed in the fire.
