MMRC rolls out free Wi-Fi at Mumbai Metro Line-3 stations to ease ticket booking

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has launched free Wi-Fi services across all stations on Mumbai Metro Line-3 (Aqua Line).

On Monday, mid-day reported key challenges faced by commuters on the first day of Mumbai Metro Line 3 operations, including poor mobile network connectivity.

The Wi-Fi facility is available at the concourse (ticketing) level of each station and is designed specifically to support seamless ticket booking via the official MetroConnect3 mobile app.

How to use the free Wi-Fi:

● Download and log in: Install the MetroConnect3 app and log in before entering the station.

● Connect to Wi-Fi: In your device’s Wi-Fi settings, select the “MetroConnect3” network.

● Enable full access: Open the app → go to Profile → tap “Connect to Wi-Fi” to activate free internet access (restricted to ticket booking).

MMRC emphasised that the Wi-Fi is secure, free, and reliable, encouraging commuters to use it for a hassle-free ticketing experience. The service is currently limited to ticket booking through the MetroConnect3 app.

MMRC rolls out WhatsApp ticketing for Mumbai Metro Line-3 in a push for digital convenience

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has launched a WhatsApp-based ticketing system for Mumbai Metro Line-3 commuters. The new service allows passengers to purchase metro tickets directly via WhatsApp, without the need for downloading a separate app.

The feature is powered by PeLocal Fintech Pvt. Ltd., and can be accessed by sending “Hi” to +91 98730 16836 or by scanning QR codes displayed at metro stations. Commuters will receive QR-based tickets instantly through a simple chat interface.

“This initiative reflects our continued focus on enhancing commuter convenience through smart and user-friendly solutions,” said Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director, MMRC.

“WhatsApp is already familiar to millions, making it an ideal platform for ticketing. Our goal is to make travel more seamless, efficient, and sustainable,” she added.

The integration, supported by Meta, enables commuters to generate up to six QR tickets in one go. It also supports a variety of payment methods. UPI payments will remain free of extra charges, while minimal fees will apply for card transactions.

Meta India’s Director of Business Messaging, Ravi Garg, welcomed the development, stating, “This partnership makes ticketing as easy as sending a message and offers commuters a quick, eco-friendly solution.”

PeLocal CEO Vivekanand Tripathi said the launch in Mumbai builds on successful deployments with Delhi Metro, DTC, and other transit systems.
