Doctor in Maharashtra`s Thane attempts suicide over domestic dispute

A doctor allegedly attempted suicide on Tuesday in Maharashtra’s Thane district, following a dispute with his wife, news agency PTI reported, quoting the police.

The incident occurred at his apartment in Dombivili East, where he was found unconscious by his staff after failing to report to work and ignoring phone calls, an officer said.

The doctor, who runs a hospital jointly with his wife, reportedly tried to end his life in a separate flat he had recently moved into, PTI reported, quoting the officer.

“He was under mental stress due to an alleged affair with a nurse at his hospital. Preliminary investigations indicate that the nurse was pressuring him for marriage, which reportedly led to frequent quarrels with his wife,” the officer said.

The doctor is currently undergoing treatment, and his condition is said to be stable, PTI reported, further quoting the officer.

Maharashtra minister’s aide granted bail in wife’s suicide abetment case

A local court in Mumbai on Monday granted bail to Anant Garje, the personal assistant to Maharashtra Minister Pankaja Munde, who had been arrested for allegedly abetting the suicide of his 28-year-old dentist wife in November 2025.

The bail was approved by Additional Sessions Judge Rupali Pawar. A detailed order on the bail was not yet available.

In his petition, Garje contended that the case against him was “based merely on suspicion and assumptions without any substantive facts”.

Police had opposed the plea, stating that Garje had caused physical and mental distress to his wife.

Garje’s wife, Dr Gauri Palve, died by suicide in her Worli flat in central Mumbai on November 22, reportedly due to a domestic dispute, around nine months after their marriage. She had been employed at the civic-run King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital.

Based on a complaint filed by Palve’s father, the Worli Police had registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including abetment of suicide, criminal intimidation, and voluntarily causing hurt. Garje was arrested on November 24, 2025.

Palve’s family alleged that she had taken the extreme step due to harassment and torture by Garje, police said.

The prosecution contended that the case involves the suicide of a female doctor, making it highly sensitive and serious in nature, police said.

The court, however, granted bail to the accused.
