​Car catches fire during test drive in Thane; no injuries reported 

A car fire incident was reported on Tuesday afternoon near the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) garden at Hiranandani Estate, Patlipada, along Ghodbunder Road in Thane (West). 

According to the Thane Municipal Corporation`s Disaster Management Cell, the alert was received at approximately 12:38 PM from a local informant. The incident involved a Tata Curvv (MH 04 C 100 TC) belonging to Tata Motors, which caught fire while it was being taken for a test drive in the area.

The vehicle was being driven by Ajay Gaikwad, a company employee. At the time of the incident, two customers were also inside the car. As soon as the fire broke out, all three occupants quickly exited the vehicle, ensuring their safety.

Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported in the incident, averting what could have been a serious mishap.

Following the alert, personnel from Kasarvadavali Police, the Disaster Management Cell, and the Fire Brigade rushed to the scene. The response teams included one pickup vehicle from the disaster management unit and a rescue vehicle from the fire brigade.

With coordinated efforts from emergency responders and assistance from local residents, the fire was brought under control in a timely manner.

The fire caused extensive damage to the vehicle, completely gutting it before being fully extinguished. Authorities confirmed that the situation is now under control.

Five children among six killed in Meerut house fire

In another incident, six people, including five children, were killed and a woman was injured after a massive fire broke out at a house in the Lisadi Gate area in Uttar Pradesh`s Meerut, police said on Tuesday.

It is suspected that an electrical short circuit triggered the blaze, they said, adding that the family members have given in writing that they don`t want a post-mortem of the bodies.

The deceased have been identified as Rukhsar (25), Mahbish (12), Hammad (4), Akdas (4), Nabia (4 months) and Inayat (4 months), all residents of Gali No. 3 near the Surahi Wali Masjid in Kidwai Nagar, police said.

The injured woman, Ameer Bano (55), is undergoing treatment, they said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognisance of the fire and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families. He has directed the concerned officials to reach the spot and expedite the relief measures, an official statement said.
